I just ran across this idea from Whole Foods… I had been wanting to try some "green juice" or a "green smoothie" for quite some time now (looking for coupons led me here and I remembered!).  The idea of using spinach or something along those lines is not all that new to us HOWEVER using frozen berries & almond milk along with it is.  I think I may increase my budget by just a hair (I know, I know… I just can't be happy with a small amount) but the health benefits are there and if I could jump start us with some dark leafy greens on our way to work… then well… why not?!?!  It'd sure beat my chocolate milk!

I just hope I can find frozen [organic] blueberries for cheap!  I think they would be cheaper than fresh... I will have to play around with this one.

I'll let you guys know how this goes!

Maybe you could find a organic frozen mixed fruit? I just use fruit (mango, pineapple, banana, strawberry) and a couple handfuls of baby spinach. Mmmmm. So. Good.
    Do let us know! :)

  2. I love Green Monsters! Well that's what call it at least. Here's my recipe in case you were curious:)

3 cups baby spinach, seems like a lot but it blends way down
    1/2 cup frozen pineapple
1/2 cup Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice
    1/4 cup plain nonfat yogurt

    Blend until smooth. So yummy!

  3. I am big on green smoothies as well. And LOVE green lemonade!
You can virtually incorporate any fruit or veg you have on hand. Kale is great ;)
I also often add 1 or more of the following; ground flax seed, protein powder, yogurt, fresh ginger the list goes on and on!
Good luck, the possibilities are endless!
PS - Do you just have a vitamix? I couldn't live without mine ;)

  4. I love green smoothies! Our basic smoothie is a couple handfuls of spinach, some strawberries, a banana and just some water. We sometimes add ground flax or honey. YUM! My little one is getting picky and this is the only way to get dark greens in him. I guess I can't blame him too much since he has no molars :)
Green Smoothie Girl is a good online resource.
